Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (RA) – The Great Companion Given the Glad Tidings of Paradise

 Introduction

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon the Seal of the Prophets, our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his family, and all of his Companions.

Islamic history is illuminated by remarkable individuals who sacrificed their lives, wealth, and everything dear to them for the pleasure of Allah Almighty and His Messenger ﷺ. Among these blessed Companions,Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (RA)holds a distinguished position. He was one of the Ashara Mubashshara (The Ten Promised Paradise), the ten Companions whom the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gave the glad tidings of Paradise during their lifetime.

Talhah (RA) is remembered for his extraordinary courage, generosity, sincerity, honesty, and unwavering love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. His heroic sacrifice during the **Battle of Uhud** remains one of the brightest examples of faith and devotion in Islamic history.

Biography of Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (RA)

His full name was Talhah ibn Ubaydullah ibn Uthman al-Taymi al-Qurashi (RA). He belonged to the respected Banu Taym clan of Quraysh, the same tribe as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (RA). He was born in Makkah approximately twenty-eight years before the beginning of Prophethood.

Talhah (RA) was a successful merchant and was widely respected among the people of Makkah for his honesty, integrity, excellent character, and trustworthiness.

Acceptance of Islam

During one of his business journeys to Syria (Ash-Sham, a Christian monk asked a young man from Makkah whether the Final Prophet had already appeared in Makkah. This question deeply affected Talhah (RA) and increased his curiosity.

After returning to Makkah, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (RA)informed him about the message of Islam and introduced him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Without hesitation, Talhah (RA) embraced Islam, becoming one of the earliest Muslims.

After accepting Islam, he endured severe persecution from the Quraysh. Despite their oppression, he remained steadfast in his faith and never abandoned Islam.

Love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

Talhah (RA) had immense love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Serving, obeying, and protecting the Prophet ﷺ became the greatest purpose of his life.

After migrating to Madinah, he actively participated in the service of Islam and took part in major expeditions and important events. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ greatly appreciated his sacrifices and held him in high esteem.

The Extraordinary Courage of Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (RA)

Talhah (RA) was among the bravest warriors of Islam who stood beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the most difficult moments. His courage, loyalty, and sacrifice have earned him an everlasting place in Islamic history.

Heroic Sacrifice at the Battle of Uhud

During the Battle of Uhud (3 AH), some Muslims left their assigned positions, allowing the enemy to launch a sudden attack. The situation became extremely critical. At that difficult moment, only a handful of devoted Companions remained around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Talhah (RA) was among the most prominent.

Without concern for his own safety, Talhah (RA) shielded the Prophet ﷺ with his own body. He endured arrows and sword strikes to prevent any harm from reaching the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

According to authentic narrations, Talhah (RA) suffered numerous serious injuries during the battle, and one of his hands was permanently disabled while protecting the Prophet ﷺ. Despite his wounds, he never retreated from the battlefield.

Qays ibn Abi Hazim narrated that he saw the hand of Talhah (RA) that had become paralyzed while protecting the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

Virtues of Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (RA)

Allah Almighty honored Talhah (RA) with numerous virtues.

• He was one of the Ashara Mubashshara.
• He received the glad tidings of Paradise directly from the Prophet ﷺ.

Whoever wishes to see a martyr walking upon the earth should look at Talhah ibn Ubaydullah.

His Status Among the Ashara Mubashshara

Generosity and Charity

Talhah (RA) was exceptionally generous.

Although Allah blessed him with abundant wealth through trade, he never allowed worldly possessions to occupy his heart. Instead, he spent generously in the way of Allah, helping the poor, orphans, travelers, and those in need.

On many occasions, he donated large amounts of his wealth solely for the pleasure of Allah.

Noble Character

Talhah (RA) was gentle, humble, truthful, trustworthy, modest, and compassionate.

His life demonstrates that a true believer is not only devoted in worship but also distinguished by excellent character and sincere dealings with others.

Martyrdom of Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (RA)

Following the martyrdom of Uthman ibn Affan (RA), the Muslim community experienced a period of internal conflict.

In 36 AH, during or shortly after the Battle of the Camel (Jamal), Talhah (RA) was struck by an arrow and was martyred.

Allah Almighty honored him with the noble status of martyrdom. His entire life was devoted to faith, sincerity, courage, sacrifice, and service to Islam.

Lessons from the Life of Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (RA)

1. Love for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ should come before everything else.
2. A believer should always be prepared to sacrifice for the sake of Islam.

تعارف 

 الحمد للہ رب العالمین، والصلاة والسلام علیٰ سید المرسلین، نبینا محمد ﷺ، وعلیٰ آلہ واصحابہ اجمعین۔

اسلام کی تاریخ ایسی عظیم ہستیوں سے روشن ہے جنہوں نے اللہ تعالیٰ اور اس کے رسول ﷺ کی رضا کے لیے اپنی جان، مال اور ہر محبوب چیز قربان کر دی۔ انہی خوش نصیب صحابۂ کرامؓ میں حضرت طلحہ بن عبید اللہؓ کا مقام نہایت بلند ہے۔ آپؓ ان دس عظیم صحابہؓ میں شامل ہیں جنہیں رسول اللہ ﷺ نے دنیا ہی میں جنت کی بشارت عطا فرمائی، اسی لیے آپؓ کا شمار عشرہ مبشرہ میں ہوتا ہے۔

حضرت طلحہؓ اپنی بے مثال شجاعت، سخاوت، اخلاص، دیانت اور رسول اللہ ﷺ سے والہانہ محبت کے باعث اسلامی تاریخ کی ممتاز شخصیات میں شمار ہوتے ہیں۔ خصوصاً غزوۂ اُحد میں آپؓ نے جس جانثاری اور وفاداری کا مظاہرہ کیا، وہ رہتی دنیا تک اہلِ ایمان کے لیے مشعلِ راہ ہے۔ 

حضرت طلحہ بن عبید اللہؓ کا تعارف

حضرت طلحہ بن عبید اللہ بن عثمان التیمی القرشیؓ قریش کے معزز قبیلہ بنو تیم سے تعلق رکھتے تھے، جو حضرت ابو بکر صدیقؓ کا بھی قبیلہ تھا۔ آپؓ کی ولادت بعثتِ نبوی سے تقریباً اٹھائیس سال قبل مکہ مکرمہ میں ہوئی۔

آپؓ تجارت سے وابستہ تھے اور اپنی دیانت، سچائی، خوش اخلاقی اور امانت داری کی وجہ سے اہلِ مکہ میں انتہائی معزز سمجھے جاتے تھے۔ 

اسلام قبول کرنے کا واقعہ

ایک مرتبہ حضرت طلحہؓ تجارتی سفر پر شام گئے۔ وہاں ایک راہب نے اہلِ مکہ کے ایک نوجوان سے پوچھا:

کیا مکہ میں آخری نبی ظاہر ہو چکے ہیں؟

یہ بات حضرت طلحہؓ کے دل پر گہرا اثر چھوڑ گئی۔

جب آپؓ واپس مکہ پہنچے تو حضرت ابو بکر صدیقؓ نے انہیں رسول اللہ ﷺ کی دعوتِ اسلام سے آگاہ کیا۔ حضرت طلحہؓ نے کسی تردد کے بغیر رسول اللہ ﷺ کے دستِ مبارک پر اسلام قبول کر لیا اور یوں وہ اسلام قبول کرنے والے اولین صحابۂ کرامؓ میں شامل ہوگئے۔

اسلام قبول کرنے کے بعد قریش نے آپؓ کو سخت اذیتیں دیں، لیکن آپؓ اپنے ایمان پر ثابت قدم رہے اور کسی آزمائش کے سامنے جھکے نہیں۔

رسول اللہ ﷺ سے محبت

حضرت طلحہؓ رسول اللہ ﷺ سے بے حد محبت کرتے تھے۔ آپؓ ہر موقع پر حضور اکرم ﷺ کی اطاعت، خدمت اور حفاظت کو اپنی زندگی کا سب سے بڑا مقصد سمجھتے تھے۔

مدینہ منورہ ہجرت کے بعد بھی آپؓ نے ہر اہم موقع، غزوہ اور اسلامی خدمت میں بڑھ چڑھ کر حصہ لیا۔ رسول اللہ ﷺ بھی آپؓ سے خصوصی محبت فرماتے تھے اور ان کی قربانیوں کو سراہتے تھے۔

حضرت طلحہ بن عبید اللہؓ کی بے مثال شجاعت

حضرت طلحہؓ اسلام کے ان عظیم سپاہیوں میں سے تھے جنہوں نے ہر مشکل گھڑی میں رسول اللہ ﷺ کا ساتھ دیا۔ آپؓ کی بہادری، وفاداری اور قربانی اسلامی تاریخ کا روشن باب ہے۔

غزوۂ اُحد میں لازوال قربانی

غزوۂ اُحد (3 ہجری) میں جب بعض مسلمان اپنی مقررہ جگہ چھوڑ بیٹھے اور دشمن نے اچانک حملہ کر دیا تو حالات انتہائی نازک ہو گئے۔ اس موقع پر چند جان نثار صحابۂ کرامؓ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے گرد ڈٹ گئے، جن میں حضرت طلحہؓ نمایاں تھے۔

آپؓ نے اپنی جان کی پروا کیے بغیر رسول اللہ ﷺ کا دفاع کیا۔ دشمن کے تیر اور تلوار کے وار اپنے جسم پر برداشت کیے تاکہ کوئی حملہ حضور اکرم ﷺ تک نہ پہنچ سکے۔

مستند روایات کے مطابق اس جنگ میں حضرت طلحہؓ کے جسم پر متعدد شدید زخم آئے، آپؓ کا ایک ہاتھ مستقل طور پر متاثر ہوا، لیکن اس کے باوجود آپؓ میدانِ جنگ سے پیچھے نہ ہٹے۔

حضرت قیس بن ابی حازمؒ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے حضرت طلحہؓ کے اس ہاتھ کو دیکھا جو رسول اللہ ﷺ کی حفاظت کرتے ہوئے شل ہوگیا تھا۔ (صحیح البخاری)اسی جانثاری پررسول اللہ ﷺ نے حضرت طلحہؓ کی بے حد تعریف فرمائی اور ان کی عظیم قربانی کو امت کے لیے مثال قرار دیا۔

حضرت طلحہؓ کے فضائل

حضرت طلحہ بن عبید اللہؓ کو اللہ تعالیٰ نے بے شمار فضائل سے نوازا۔

آپؓ عشرہ مبشرہ میں شامل تھے۔

رسول اللہ ﷺ نے آپؓ کو دنیا ہی میں جنت کی بشارت دی۔

غزوۂ اُحد میں آپؓ نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کی جان کی حفاظت کی۔

آپؓ نہایت سخی اور فیاض صحابی تھے۔

آپؓ ہر وقت اللہ کی راہ میں مال خرچ کرنے کے لیے تیار رہتے تھے۔رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا:

رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: جس شخص کو یہ پسند ہو کہ کسی ایسے شہید کو دیکھے جو زمین پر چل رہا ہو، وہ طلحہ بن عبید اللہ کو دیکھ لے۔

یہ حدیث حضرت طلحہؓ کے بلند مقام اور عظیم قربانی کی واضح دلیل ہے۔

عشرہ مبشرہ میں مقام

حضرت طلحہ بن عبید اللہؓ ان دس عظیم صحابہؓ میں شامل ہیں جنہیں رسول اللہ ﷺ نے دنیا ہی میں جنت کی خوشخبری سنائی۔

عشرہ مبشرہ میں شامل ہونا حضرت طلحہؓ کی سب سے بڑی فضیلتوں میں سے ایک ہے، کیونکہ یہ اعزاز صرف انہی خوش نصیب صحابہؓ کو ملا جنہوں نے ایمان، اخلاص، تقویٰ اور قربانی کی اعلیٰ مثال قائم کی۔

سخاوت اور اللہ کی راہ میں خرچ

حضرت طلحہؓ انتہائی سخی تھے۔

اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں فراوانی سے مال عطا فرمایا، لیکن آپؓ نے کبھی دنیا کی محبت کو اپنے دل میں جگہ نہ دی۔ غریبوں، یتیموں، مسکینوں، مسافروں اور ضرورت مندوں کی مدد کرنا آپؓ کی عادت تھی۔

کئی مرتبہ آپؓ اپنی بڑی مقدار میں دولت اللہ تعالیٰ کی رضا کے لیے صدقہ کر دیتے تھے اور اس پر خوشی محسوس کرتے تھے۔

اخلاق و کردار

حضرت طلحہؓ نہایت نرم مزاج، خوش اخلاق، امانت دار، سچے، باحیا اور عاجز انسان تھے۔

آپؓ کی زندگی اس حقیقت کا عملی نمونہ تھی کہ ایک کامل مسلمان صرف عبادت گزار ہی نہیں بلکہ بہترین اخلاق کا بھی مالک ہوتا ہے۔

حضرت طلحہ بن عبید اللہؓ کی شہادت

حضرت عثمان بن عفانؓ کی شہادت کے بعد امتِ مسلمہ میں فتنوں کا دور شروع ہوا۔

36 ہجری میں جنگِ جمل کے دوران یا اس کے اختتام پر حضرت طلحہؓ کو ایک تیر لگا، جس کے نتیجے میں آپؓ شہید ہوگئے۔

اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپؓ کو شہادت جیسے عظیم مقام سے نوازا۔ آپؓ کی پوری زندگی اسلام، اخلاص، وفاداری، شجاعت اور قربانی سے عبارت تھی۔

حضرت طلحہؓ کی زندگی سے حاصل ہونے والے اسباق

1. اللہ تعالیٰ اور اس کے رسول ﷺ سے سچی محبت ہر چیز پر مقدم ہونی چاہیے۔
2. دینِ اسلام کی خاطر ہر قسم کی قربانی کے لیے تیار رہنا چاہیے۔
3. اللہ کی دی ہوئی نعمتوں کو اس کی رضا کے لیے خرچ کرنا مومن کی شان ہے۔
4. حق، انصاف اور سچائی کا ہمیشہ ساتھ دینا چاہیے۔
5. بہترین اخلاق، عاجزی اور اخلاص انسان کے درجات بلند کرتے ہیں۔
6. مشکل حالات میں ثابت قدم رہنا ہی حقیقی ایمان کی علامت ہے۔

اختتامیہ
