Water: A Precious Blessing from Allah — Save It Before It's Too Late

 پانی: اللہ تعالیٰ کی عظیم نعمت — اسے ضائع نہ کریں

آج اگر آپ اسلام آباد، لاہور، پشاور یا پاکستان کے کسی بھی بڑے شہر میں کسی سے کہیں کہ "پانی احتیاط سے استعمال کریں، بارش کا پانی محفوظ کریں، زیرِ زمین پانی کو ری چارج کریں، کیونکہ یہ لامحدود نہیں" تو اکثر جواب ملتا ہے:

"دنیا میں تو 70 فیصد پانی ہے، ہمارے ہاں ختم ہوا تو کراچی کے سمندر سے لے آئیں گے۔"

لیکن حقیقت اس سے کہیں زیادہ تلخ ہے۔
جو ملک پہلے ہی بھاری قرضوں کے بوجھ تلے دبا ہوا ہو، جہاں معمولی مالی امداد بھی بڑی خبر بن جائے، کیا وہ سمندر کے پانی کو پینے کے قابل بنانے کے لیے اربوں ڈالر کے ڈی سیلینیشن پلانٹس، ہزاروں کلومیٹر طویل پائپ لائنیں اور ان کے لیے درکار بجلی کا مستقل انتظام کر سکتا ہے؟
سب سے بڑی حقیقت یہ ہے کہ کراچی خود سمندر کے کنارے ہونے کے باوجود پانی کی شدید قلت کا شکار ہے۔ وہاں ہزاروں خاندان پانی کے ایک ٹینکر کے لیے کئی کئی دن انتظار کرتے ہیں اور ہزاروں روپے خرچ کرنے پر مجبور ہوتے ہیں۔ جب سمندر کے کنارے رہنے والے پیاسے ہیں تو سینکڑوں کلومیٹر دور بیٹھ کر سمندر کے پانی پر بھروسا کرنا دانشمندی نہیں۔
بہت سے لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ دنیا میں 70 فیصد پانی موجود ہے، مگر وہ یہ بھول جاتے ہیں کہ اس میں سے تقریباً 97 فیصد پانی کھارا ہے۔ صرف تقریباً 3 فیصد میٹھا پانی ہے، اور اس میں سے بھی بہت تھوڑا حصہ ہی انسان کے استعمال کے لیے آسانی سے دستیاب ہے۔ باقی برفانی ذخائر یا زمین کی گہرائی میں محفوظ ہے۔

اسلام ہمیں کیا سکھاتا ہے؟
سلام نے ہمیں نعمتوں کی قدر کرنا سکھائی ہے۔ پانی اللہ تعالیٰ کی عظیم نعمت اور زندگی کی بنیاد ہے۔
اللہ تعالیٰ قرآنِ کریم میں فرماتا ہے:
﴿وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ﴾ "اور ہم نے پانی سے ہر زندہ چیز کو پیدا کیا۔" (سورۃ الأنبیاء: 30)
اسی طرح قرآن میں اللہ تعالیٰ اسراف سے منع فرماتا ہے:
﴿وَلَا تُسْرِفُوا ۚ إِنَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِينَ﴾ "فضول خرچی نہ کرو، بے شک اللہ فضول خرچی کرنے والوں کو پسند نہیں کرتا۔" (سورۃ الأعراف: 31)
نبی کریم ﷺ نے بھی پانی کے استعمال میں اعتدال کی تعلیم دی۔ احادیث میں آتا ہے کہ آپ ﷺ نے بہتے ہوئے پانی کے کنارے بھی بلا ضرورت پانی ضائع کرنے سے منع فرمایا۔ اس سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ اسلام میں وسائل کی حفاظت عبادت اور ذمہ داری دونوں ہے۔
آج اگر ہم پانی کی قدر نہ کریں، بارش کے پانی کو محفوظ نہ کریں، زیرِ زمین پانی کے ذخائر کو ری چارج نہ کریں اور روزمرہ زندگی میں پانی کا اسراف جاری رکھیں تو آنے والی نسلیں ہمیں کبھی معاف نہیں کریں گی۔

آئیے! عہد کریں کہ:پانی کو ضرورت کے مطابق استعمال کریں گے۔

• نل کھلا نہیں چھوڑیں گے۔
• بارش کے پانی کو محفوظ کرنے کی کوشش کریں گے۔
• دوسروں کو بھی پانی بچانے کی ترغیب دیں گے۔

اللہ تعالیٰ ہمیں اپنی نعمتوں کی قدر کرنے، اسراف سے بچنے اور آنے والی نسلوں کے لیے پانی کے ذخائر محفوظ رکھنے کی توفیق عطا فرمائے۔ آمین۔

 Water: A Precious Blessing from Allah — Do Not Waste It

If you tell someone in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, or any other major city in Pakistan, "Please use water wisely, store rainwater, and help recharge groundwater because it is not unlimited," you may hear the response:

"The Earth is 70% water. If we run out, we'll just bring water from the sea in Karachi."If only the solution were that simple.
The reality is far more challenging. A country already struggling with heavy debt and financial constraints cannot easily afford multi-billion-dollar desalination plants, the enormous electricity required to operate them, or thousands of kilometers of pipelines needed to transport water across the country.
The greatest irony is that Karachi itself lies on the Arabian Sea, yet millions of its residents face severe water shortages. Many families wait days for a single water tanker and often pay between PKR 5,000 and 15,000 for one delivery. If people living beside the sea struggle to obtain clean drinking water, how realistic is it to believe that seawater can easily solve the country's water crisis?
Another common misconception is that 70% of the Earth is covered with water. While this is true, nearly 97% of that water is salty and unsuitable for drinking. Only about 3% is freshwater, and only a tiny fraction of it is readily available for human use. The rest is locked in glaciers, ice caps, or deep underground.

What Does Islam Teach Us?
Islam teaches us to value every blessing bestowed by Allah, and water is among His greatest blessings. It is the source of life for every living creature.
Allah Almighty says in the Holy Qur'an:
"And We made from water every living thing."
(Surah Al-Anbiya 21:30)
Allah also commands:
"Do not be wasteful. Indeed, Allah does not love those who waste."
(Surah Al-A'raf 7:31)
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught moderation in the use of water. Authentic narrations mention that he discouraged wasting water even when performing ablution beside a flowing river, demonstrating that conservation is an Islamic value regardless of how abundant a resource may appear.
Water conservation is therefore not merely an environmental responsibility—it is an act of gratitude to Allah and a trust that we must protect for future generations.

Every drop of water saved today is an investment in the future.
Let us all pledge to:
- Use water responsibly.
- Avoid unnecessary waste.
- Harvest and store rainwater whenever possible.
- Protect groundwater resources.
- Encourage others to adopt water-saving habits.
May Allah Almighty grant us the wisdom to appreciate His blessings, protect our natural resources, avoid extravagance, and leave a better world for the generations to come.Ameen.
