Patience (Sabr) in Islam
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon the Leader of all the Prophets and Messengers.
Human life is a combination of happiness and sorrow, ease and hardship. Sometimes we achieve success, and at other times we face trials and difficulties. During such moments, the quality that gives a Muslim strength is Sabr (patience). Patience is not merely remaining silent; rather, it means staying steadfast while being content with Allah's decree and placing complete trust in Him.

What Is Patience (Sabr)?
Patience means controlling one's desires according to the pleasure of Allah, avoiding sins, and trusting Allah instead of complaining during times of hardship.
Allah Almighty says:
Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:153)
This verse reassures us that a patient believer is never alone because Allah is always with those who remain steadfast.
Why Do Trials Come?
Many people believe that hardships are only a punishment for sins. In reality, Allah also tests His beloved servants so that their ranks may be elevated.
Allah Almighty says in the Quran:
And We will surely test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives, and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:155)

  • Prophet Yusuf (Joseph, peace be upon him) endured imprisonment with steadfastness.
  • Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ bore persecution and oppression in Makkah but never abandoned the mission of spreading Islam.
These noble Prophets are the finest examples of patience for all believers.

  • They earn the love of Allah.
  • They find peace and tranquility in their hearts.
  • Their sins are forgiven.
